bol, ke lab azaad hai tere,
bol, zubaan ab tak teri hai,
tera sutwaan jism hai tera-
bol, ke jaan ab tak teri hai.
dekh ke ahangar ki dukan mein
tund hain sholey, surkh hai ahan,
khulne-lage qhuflon ke dahane,
phaila har ek zanjeer ka daman.
bol, ye thora waqt bohut hai,
jism-o-zubaan ki maut se pehle.
bol, ke sach zinda hai ab tak-
bol, jo kuch kehna hai kehle.
speak, for your lips are free,
speak, your tongue is still yours,
your upright body is yours-
speak, your life is still yours.
see how in the blacksmith's shop
the flames are hot, the iron is red,
mouths of locks have begun to open,
each chain's skirt has spread wide.
speak, this little time is plenty
before the death of body and tongue;
speak, for truth is still alive-
speak, say whatever must be said.
Poems by Faiz - V. G. Kiernan
It's only apt that we start with this one.
Both the transliteration and the translation were taken from 'Poems by Faiz' by V. G. Kiernan.
You can find Faiz's own recitation here.
There's a lot more Faiz to come, if I have anything to say about it.
